  This is no more than a really quick tip.


  You may have heard certain gurus around telling you the best way to get attention is to "create hype". This is not a post for me to tell you that's wrong, because I totally agree. If you have a big, meaty and juicy piece of content, hell yes! create hype about your new post. But there is a very fine line between creating hype and creating nuisance. 


  A very good question is: "how can I create hype about something without annoying all my followers out of following?" 


  Do you remember someone telling you how important it is to put "a face" on your blog or site? You know, the importance of videos and personal writing? 


  TA-DAH! Combine the two. Create hype by posting personalised updates.


Here's an example: "New post, click here"
OR! "I've been typing my ass off for you, check out my hard work, here!"


See the difference? Provide humour to connect with your readers.

Is AdSense Placement Really That Important?

  What I am about to tell you is nothing new. You would have heard it from every other blogger or website owner around. Where you place you AdSense units really does matter when it comes to your income. When I recently moved one of my AdSense banners from the bottom of my page to the very top, just under my "pages" bar, I noticed a huge increase in clicks. 


  However, where you place your ads could impact your reader's impression of you. You probably know of sites with waayyy too many units, just plonked haphazardly all over the place. My impression of those sites is that they're too busy looking for - no, begging for clicks to actually pay any attention to the content they provide, and my assumption is that the site provides no real purpose other than monetization for the owner.


  This is why so many people would urge you to keep ads below the fold, (the amount of screen that shows without scrolling), and this brings us back to the need for great content. Why would somebody scroll down to where your ads are if your site or blog looks dodgy or half done?


  Also important to remember is that your ads don't always show image based ads, text based ads can be shown, and they often look a little... Cheap.


  So the point of this blog is to update you on my recent AdSense success from a simple movement but also warn of the dangers in placement.

A week of work and blogging

  The first week of having this blog has been anti climatic. A post on Hairyfrankfurt about Playboy's latest business ventures has been no more "successful" than I had anticipated.
  However, something that was new and can be interpreted in many ways was the fact that someone has gone and rated almost all the posts on my first page 1 star. I'd like to believe it's just the one person, simply because it's too much of a coincidence.
  And if we go by this, it's hard to believe that they read and were being genuine, because it is a very generic, near hateful action. 
  For my YouTube, yesterday I posted a review on Formula 10.0.6's facial cleansing regime. Again, nothing all too out of the ordinary, and from what I can tell it's too early in the game for that one.
  To advertise the post I simply shared the title of the post and a link to it on Facebook and Twitter, nothing too special, but for the video I created hype by doing almost a countdown on Twitter.
  Now I understand that isn't much in a week to see myself shooting off to the stars, but as I said in the title, I've been working too and have other things on my plate.

Humble Beginnings

The point of this blog is to document my road to fame online. Similar to a diary I will post things I've done, marketing strategies that have (and have not) worked, and little things going on in my life that affect my online work.


This is my first post on this blog, and hence the mark of my beginning.


Let me get this out in the open, I am doing this with the goal of earning a living, but at this stage earn my money by working at a fast food chain.
My main blog, hairyfrankfurt is fashion and make-up based, and at this moment still not getting enough views to be anything big, yet it's still my mind child and something I am very proud of.
For fun, I also have a tumblr page, which is not for money or anything in particular.
My most popular and most successful online place is my YouTube channel. I have revenue sharing on one of my videos, offered to me by YouTube through their partnership program. Funnily enough, I didn't actually market this video at all, so I attribute this success solely to the topic of the video and the fact that it's simple. You can watch the video here.
As it stands, the only thing I do to market any of my videos is having my YouTube channel connected with my Twitter and Facebook accounts so that all comments I post on YouTube are sent to those accounts, as well as my MySpace account as it is connected to my Twitter.


This is all I have to tell you about at this moment, but I will post weekly about things I have done to help improve my online status.
