Re-Adressing and Re-Assessing

So it's been about 5 years since I last posted here.
Not because I've given up completely on the goal that inspired this blog, but purely because of life.
In the meantime my online platform has changed quite dramatically, as have my interests and strategies.
One thing I've found myself doing is simply plotting along, ignoring the changes and simply "going with the flow", not sitting down and taking the time to actually look at who I'm talking to, what I'm talking about or why I'm doing it.
And of course in the space of those 5 years the environment in which I'm working in has changed drastically as well. Google is not what it once was, technology is obviously far more advanced than it was then and we have new platforms and devices that weren't in existence back then.
People look at the internet very differently and digital marketing is a massive industry. Vine happened, attention spans shrunk, livestreaming exists now, augmented and virtual reality have been born.

So to re-address the environment in which I'm working and the methods in which I'm using to perform that work is incredibly important. Re-addressing my personal place in this ecosystem, the problems that it faces and everything that is occurring is absolutely necessary. It's also necessary to reassess the ways in which I tackle the problems at hand and the strategies I use to build momentum

  I'll begin with current statistics:

Subs- 3,573
Total views- 370,945
Videos- 343

Subs-383
Total views- 24,512
Videos- 177

Followers- 1,421
Total views- 5,232

Some statistics (for example total views on the Twitch channel) may have been altered from site resets.
Other statistics fluctuate from week to week and have been left out.

  Now for strategy:

Have each week's videos scheduled on Sunday for every 2nd day uploads
Collabs with other YouTuber's every week
More controversial topics
Responding to controversy on the platform
Commenting on similar YouTube pages daily
Utilising community efforts by responding to comments/questions publicly (eg roast me, shout outs and Q&As)
Channel trailer
Page optimisation

Scheduling videos for every 2nd day upload on Sundays
Game reviews
Game code giveaways (contact local devs)
Stream VODS + highlights
Multiplayer game collabs
Commenting on similar YouTube pages daily
Channel trailer
Page optimisation

Upload all old content and stay up to date
Comment on similar channels daily

Set up weekly schedule
Stream for 15+hrs each week
Engage viewers by playing with them
Follow goal each stream

Post on popular topics
Shareable content

Instagram:

Use Canon for higher quality photos

And I'll be checking in on these stats every month to see how they platforms are progressing!

Stretching Yourself Thin?

So you've probably noticed my neglected blogs and YouTube channel. With a hectic schedule and so many places to post, it is easy to become flustered and end up doing nothing at all.

A way to prevent this is to a) create a good foundation on each of your blogs/websites before creating another and b) focussing your attention on one thing at a time, for instance, if you got a little overzealous and created 10 blogs/websites in one day, whacked one introductory post on each of them and then found it difficult to keep up the regular posting, just take a second to look at one of them, think what you should post about next, and post it. Then take the time to draw attention to that one post as if you only ever had that one website. Post in rounds, site 1, site 2, site 3 etc. By the time you get to the last of your pages, you may find your first getting less attention, but by going back to it and repeating the steps, you will see your views grow again with the possibility of more than the last bound of views.

Yes, it is very easy to stretch yourself thin, but the important thing is to relax and see it as a manageable task that can be done, taking little steps to boost confidence and see your dream more possible.

A Step Backwards..?

So according to all notable bloggers, to be absent for any given time is wrong. It lowers your views and presence in the field. Successful blogging comes down to regularity of posts and publicity through various social media networks.
So when a blogger jumps off the side of the planet quite like I did early this year, people would say failure was eminent. And I wouldn't disagree.

Although my views during my absence were indeed quite diminished, it was not all bad news. In fact, a break gave my views a low plato, so when I returned, I was able to bring back my old viewers, increase my current readers' loyalty and invite new readers. OK, that makes it sound like a crazy media frenzy, but statistically I have come out better off that I was before I took a forced break due to circumstance changes.

My blog was left alone for quite some time, and I won't say I didn't feel the consequences, but coming back has increased my personal reader base.

So, a step backwards?

Quick Tip!

This is no more than a really quick tip.

You may have heard certain gurus around telling you the best way to get attention is to "create hype". This is not a post for me to tell you that's wrong, because I totally agree. If you have a big, meaty and juicy piece of content, hell yes! create hype about your new post. But there is a very fine line between creating hype and creating nuisance.

A very good question is: "how can I create hype about something without annoying all my followers out of following?"

Do you remember someone telling you how important it is to put "a face" on your blog or site? You know, the importance of videos and personal writing?

TA-DAH! Combine the two. Create hype by posting personalised updates.

Here's an example: "New post, click here"
OR! "I've been typing my ass off for you, check out my hard work, here!"

See the difference? Provide humour to connect with your readers.

That is all =D

Is AdSense Placement Really That Important?

What I am about to tell you is nothing new. You would have heard it from every other blogger or website owner around. Where you place you AdSense units really does matter when it comes to your income. When I recently moved one of my AdSense banners from the bottom of my page to the very top, just under my "pages" bar, I noticed a huge increase in clicks.

However, where you place your ads could impact your reader's impression of you. You probably know of sites with waayyy too many units, just plonked haphazardly all over the place. My impression of those sites is that they're too busy looking for - no, begging for clicks to actually pay any attention to the content they provide, and my assumption is that the site provides no real purpose other than monetization for the owner.

This is why so many people would urge you to keep ads below the fold, (the amount of screen that shows without scrolling), and this brings us back to the need for great content. Why would somebody scroll down to where your ads are if your site or blog looks dodgy or half done?

Also important to remember is that your ads don't always show image based ads, text based ads can be shown, and they often look a little... Cheap.

So the point of this blog is to update you on my recent AdSense success from a simple movement but also warn of the dangers in placement.

See you next week ;)

A week of work and blogging

The first week of having this blog has been anti climatic. A post on Hairyfrankfurt about Playboy's latest business ventures has been no more "successful" than I had anticipated.
However, something that was new and can be interpreted in many ways was the fact that someone has gone and rated almost all the posts on my first page 1 star. I'd like to believe it's just the one person, simply because it's too much of a coincidence.
And if we go by this, it's hard to believe that they read and were being genuine, because it is a very generic, near hateful action.
For my YouTube, yesterday I posted a review on Formula 10.0.6's facial cleansing regime. Again, nothing all too out of the ordinary, and from what I can tell it's too early in the game for that one.
To advertise the post I simply shared the title of the post and a link to it on Facebook and Twitter, nothing too special, but for the video I created hype by doing almost a countdown on Twitter.
Now I understand that isn't much in a week to see myself shooting off to the stars, but as I said in the title, I've been working too and have other things on my plate.

That's this week done, see you next week for a new update!

Humble Beginnings

The point of this blog is to document my road to fame online. Similar to a diary I will post things I've done, marketing strategies that have (and have not) worked, and little things going on in my life that affect my online work.

This is my first post on this blog, and hence the mark of my beginning.

Let me get this out in the open, I am doing this with the goal of earning a living, but at this stage earn my money by working at a fast food chain.
My main blog, hairyfrankfurt is fashion and make-up based, and at this moment still not getting enough views to be anything big, yet it's still my mind child and something I am very proud of.
For fun, I also have a tumblr page, which is not for money or anything in particular.
My most popular and most successful online place is my YouTube channel. I have revenue sharing on one of my videos, offered to me by YouTube through their partnership program. Funnily enough, I didn't actually market this video at all, so I attribute this success solely to the topic of the video and the fact that it's simple. You can watch the video here.
As it stands, the only thing I do to market any of my videos is having my YouTube channel connected with my Twitter and Facebook accounts so that all comments I post on YouTube are sent to those accounts, as well as my MySpace account as it is connected to my Twitter.

This is all I have to tell you about at this moment, but I will post weekly about things I have done to help improve my online status.
See you next week!
